The 2014 Area 6 Championship will be held at the South River Gun Club in Covington GA on April 11th-13th 2014.
I know many have been awaiting the official notice and I appreciate your patience. As some may already know Donna Webb, Match Director for the 2013 match was given a new opportunity with her employer that she couldn’t pass up. Sometimes with new opportunity comes sacrifice. With her new position she would not be able to assume the MD role again in 2014. I congratulate her and wish her the best in her new job.
There were many pieces to the puzzle for finding a new match director and team of volunteers. These reviews include suitable ranges, capable clubs, teams of volunteers and the availability of all of these to come together on short notice.
I want to thank Cindy & Bill Noyes and the South River Gun Club for stepping up on short notice to accommodate our major match of the year. I have full confidence this match will be a great Area 6 match with all the elements of challenging stages, super staff and good times expected at a Level III match.
More detailed information will be available very soon.
2014 USPSA Area 6 Director
April 21, 2013 – This years Area 6 Championship was held in the Sunshine State, but sometimes without the sunshine and a little chill in the air. Add in some Florida mud and you have a championship match. It was a good match with many of the nation’s top talent showing who can overcome natures variables.
The top winners included Travis Tomasie, Manny Bragg and Lesgar Murdock in the Limited Division. Open Division went to David Pruitt of Red Dot, Bill Drummond and KC Eusebio. Production winners are Matthew Mink of CZ, Brandon Wright and Sonny Morton III. Single Stack division had a high turn out with Max Michel from Sig Sauer, Dave Sevigny and USPSA President Phil Strader as the top three. High Junior went to Jason Katz from Wyoming Antelope Club and MatchSignUp in Production division.
The match was hosted at the Ancient City Range in St Augustine with all the conveniences of the big city. Just 5 minutes from match hotels made it easy for everyone to spend time together. Local restaurants and city attractions were all within minutes of the hotels. Ancient city range is a clean and simple range to navigate. Plenty of bays yet easy to move between stages. Any doubt about their ability to host the championship has been put to rest.
This was Donna Webb’s first Area Championship match as match director. With strong support from section coordinator Bruce Wells and Chip Saffery the match went well even when challenged with weather. Your first big match is never easy and we all owe the management, the staff and the sponsors a big thank you for so much volunteer work. There were doubts cast but those have now been put aside and we look forward to next years match at Ancient City Range being even better.
